Logikos: An Introduction

I have created something new-- hopefully not only this blog, but renewed growth and discipline through it. Summa Theologikos.

λογικός (Greek) - logikos

adjective
  1. pertaining to speech or speaking

  2. pertaining to reason or logic
    1. spiritual, pertaining to the soul
    2. agreeable to reason, following reason, reasonable, logical

“I appeal to you therefore, brothers, by the mercies of God, to present your bodies as a living sacrifice, holy and acceptable to God, which is your λογικός worship.”

The name is firstly a cheeky nod to Summa Theologica, a guide on the essential beliefs of Christianity written by the medieval philosopher and theologian, Thomas Aquinas.

Next, I fit in logikos, which similarly intertwines mind with spirit. It also references the Logos from which it is derived… with bonus points for splicing some Greek into a Latin phrase.

As for the “theo-”, I desire for all my learning - whether in history, science, philosophy, or in any other school of knowledge - to be aware of the God behind and within and above all of it.

Lastly, and with the most revolutionary change for my writing, is Summa, since I feel an urgent need to record and share my thoughts in a simplified, summarized form… just as I would as if I was writing in my own journal.

The combined result should be more frequent posts, more accurate charting of my personal progress in knowledge and Christ-likeness, and more intentional, interwoven learning in both academics and theology.

I pray that for you, friends who are also my readers, these less synthesized yet more regular and raw thoughts offer encouragement-- helping to build up where Christ is already bringing reinforcement and renewal in your own life.
